LOANS FOR JEWISH DOMESTIC ABUSE SURVIVORS
Dallas Hebrew Free Loan Association provides no interest loans up to $10,000 to help survivors of domestic abuse cover legal, transitional housing and transportation expenses.
Jewish domestic abuse, while often unspoken, is a pressing issue that requires community awareness and support. Many survivors face cultural or religious barriers when seeking help, making financial resources like DHFLA’s program even more critical.
By providing discreet, dignified financial assistance, the program empowers domestic abuse survivors to take control of their futures without the burden of high-interest debt.
Term: Payable in equal monthly installments over 60 months (five years). The first payment is due the month following loan origination.
BORROWER REQUIREMENTS
- You must meet DHFLA’s general requirements (see below).
- You must be Jewish.
- You must submit a completed loan application, ACH form and a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID.
- Documentation from an accredited agency that provides services for domestic abuse survivors like Jewish Family Service or Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support is required. Verification of need may also be accepted from professionals such as doctors, counselors, attorneys, clinics or other authorities at the discretion of DHFLA.
- You must demonstrate an ability to repay the loan.
- All guarantors must submit a completed guaranty agreement, information release form and a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Obtain at least one qualified guarantor.
- Local clergy cannot serve as guarantors.
- Provide documentation demonstrating need based on how loan will be used.
- For housing, a copy of applicant’s lease or the most recent electric bill is required.
- For transportation, a copy of title, bill of sale, invoice, canceled check from purchase, or car payment bill is required.
- For legal expenses, a copy of the signed engagement or retainer agreement, an invoice for legal fees, or a letter from the attorney confirming representation is required.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for a loan, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements. Some loan types have additional qualifying criteria. Visit the loan page for the program for which you want to apply for details on what is required to be considered for a specific type of loan.
- Be a member of the Jewish community.
- Reside for at least six months in Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Montague, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell or Wise Counties, or any other county in North Central or East Texas that includes Longview, Texarkana, Tyler, Waco or Wichita Falls.
- Be 18 years-old or older, unless otherwise noted.
- Demonstrate need.
- Show creditworthiness.
- Cannot have an outstanding DHFLA loan.
- Cannot be serving as a guarantor on a current DHFLA loan.
- Have two creditworthy guarantors, unless otherwise noted.
- Provide a valid government-issued photo ID.
APPLICATION PROCESS

- Complete the appropriate loan application and submit with our online form, by email to admin@dhfla.org or by mail.
- Obtain guarantors and ask them to complete and submit the guarantor paperwork to admin@dhfla.org.
- If you are a qualified applicant, you will be contacted to schedule a loan interview by Zoom with members of the DHFLA loan committee. You may be asked to submit additional information.
- A loan decision will be communicated to you by the loan officer following the interview.
- If approved, funds will be disbursed following communication of the credit decision.
